ZIPPOS CIRCUS SECURES LIFELINE ARTS COUNCIL GRANT
THE SHOW WILL GO ON!
Zippos Circus, the UK’s favourite touring circus, has been awarded significant funding in the latest allocation of grants from the Government’s Culture Recovery Fund, administered by The Arts Council England.
The vital funding of over £600,000 will enable the much-loved circus to continue to perform this year and get back on the road across the UK in 2021. Zippos Circus was unable to go out on tour for Easter this year and has been faced with many challenges including having artists from around the world stranded in the UK. The show managed to get back on tour in August, despite huge hurdles, with a critically-acclaimed new production ‘Rebound’ and has since then been touring England with a socially-distanced show and hugely reduced capacity. Zippos biggest annual gig at Hyde Park Winter Wonderland will not go ahead as the whole event has been cancelled for winter 2020.
The 2020 tour will end in November and the funds will enable the 2021 production to be created ready for touring and provide much needed monies for the business’ infrastructure.
Martin Burton, Founder and Director of Zippos Circus, commented,
“This generous grant is a lifeline for us and gives our immediate future certainty after a devastating year even if social distancing measures remain in place well into next year. The circus is a hugely popular, accessible and affordable art form, appealing to a wide audience and for many children is their first introduction to live performance. We are delighted and hugely relieved to have received this grant which will secure our financial viability and set us up for our 2021 tour.”
Zippos Circus is currently touring England and will be at Blackheath, London from Thursday 22nd October until 1st November 2021. Further details on www.zippos.co.uk.

ZIPPOS CIRCUS BACK ON THE ROAD
AND EXTENDS RUN IN BRIGHTON!
Shows at 3pm and 7pm daily until 23rd AUGUST 2020
East Ham 3 – 8 SEPT 2020 and Hampstead Heath 10 – 15 SEPT 2020
Tour runs until end October 2020
Zippos Circus is back on the road following a break due to COVID-19 with the highly-acclaimed Big Top tour Rebound! starring a diverse cast of thrilling artists from around the globe.
And, due to the increased demand for tickets and the popularity of Zippos Circus in Brighton amongst both ‘staycationers’ and locals, the circus has EXTENDED its stay in Brighton for an extra week. See the show at Hove Park Brighton until 23 August before they head for East Ham and then Hampstead Heath, London.
The show is presented by Zippos’ first female Ringmistress – Britain’s own Tracy Jones while our veteran Ringmaster Norman Barrett, 84, takes a break for this season due to COVID-19. Tracy will present a fast-moving spectacle like no other as astonishing acrobats and aerialists, comics and daredevil motorcyclists come together for this year’s colourful production.
Tracy appears alongside co-star Brazilian showman Paulo Dos Santos, who is a multi-talented comic, acrobat and martial artist – and stands at just over a metre tall.
Returning by popular demand is the famous Globe of Death with its team of motorcyclists performing high-velocity stunts. Plus, amazingly ‘elastic’ tumblers from Kenya; comic antics from French funny man Emilion; nail-biting knife-throwing from the Czech Republic; foot juggling from France; hand-balancing from the Garcia family featuring their talented teenage sons; and high-adrenaline skills via an astonishing Wheel of Steel and an upside-down ‘skywalk’ act. And much more!
COVID -19: The show complies with all COVID-19 health and safety measures including social distancing seating within household/party ‘bubbles’ in the Big Top, enhanced ventilation, PPE for staff, deep cleaning and random non-invasive temperature checks for selected visitors. The wearing of face coverings is voluntary as the audience will all be facing in the same direction.
Martin Burton, Founder and Director of Zippos Circus, commented:
“I cannot tell you how pleased we are to be back on the road again. We have worked tirelessly with the government and public health authorities to get the show back on tour in line with official regulations and guidance and are now confident that we can do so in a COVID-secure manner. The outdoor nature of the circus and well ventilated Big Top plus socially distanced seating and a range of new hygiene and safety measures will all help ensure that Zippos Circus will be a safe place for both our performers and families to enjoy and we look forward to welcoming everybody to our new show."
